Evergreen v Ballymurphy Celtic
05/01 14:00
Evergreen 1 - 5 Ballymurphy Celtic

Evergreen FC 1

Ballymurphy Celtic 5

Ballymurphy proved too strong for a very young Evergreen unit on Sunday despite having made the most positive of starts.

In the 38th minute Evergreen were awarded a free kick 25 yards out, up stepped Saoirse Comerford who produced a fantastic save from Stacey Hennessy but Kia McCallum was on hand to put away the rebound. The Ballymurphy response was swift and were level five minutes later when Tina Kavanagh was on hand to fire home from close range.

Ballymurphy started the second half much the stronger and were soon two goals clear when Tina Kavanagh rounded off an impressive hat trick. Katie Drennan worked tirelessly for Ballymurphy all day and got her reward on 75 minutes with a tidy finish and Michelle Kelly slotted home the final score of the game late on.

It was an excellent team performance from Ballymurphy while Saoirse Comerford, Maeve Mansfield and Kia McCallum did well for Evergreen.

St Fiacc's FC v Thomastown United
05/01 14:00
St Fiacc's FC 2 - 6 Thomastown United

St Fiacc’s 2

Thomastown United 6

Following the mid season break Thomastown picked up where they left off and made an immediate impression in this game scoring inside seven minutes when Sarah Walsh was unmarked in the penalty area and made no mistake from close range. Eva Haynes doubled the lead on 15 minutes with an excellent strike from distance and ten minutes later would wrap up her hat trick with two more clinical strikes. Sarah Walsh would finish the half the way she started it with her second right on half time.

A much more energetic Fiaccs team started the second half and it wasn’t long before Kelly O’Neill reduced the arrears and then on 70 minutes when O’Neill got her second it would force Thomastown to go back through the gears and would duly do so when Caroline Barrow scored their sixth to seal the points.

Best for Fiacc’s were Sara Kerfah, Kate McDonald and Kelly O’Neill while Meghan Farrell, Eva Haynes and Jenny Brennan impressed for the winners.

Vale Wanderers v Hanover Harps
05/01 14:00
Vale Wanderers 1 - 6 Hanover Harps

Vale Wanderers 1

Hanover Harps 6

The fear for the Hanover unit was how would they start the second half of the season following a five-week break and the signs in the early running weren’t good as Vale took full advantage throughout the opening 20 minutes and were unlucky to be only a goal up. The Vale goal came on 15 minutes when Philomena Murphy crossed for Aoife Roache who produced a neat finish to the bottom corner. The Hanover response was slow in coming but when it did it was emphatic and the goal machine that is Essmay Murphy produced a 25-yard screamer following some good work from Leanne Tumelty and Sarah Keating for parity. Hanover took the lead right on half time following a defensive mix up and Murphy poked home her second.

A much more clinical and aggressive Hanover took to the field in the second half and Essmay Murphy soon had her hat trick. On the hour mark Steph Kehoe’s tireless running was rewarded when she chased down what looked an over hit pass only to get a toe on it a direct it home. Rachael Whelan and Leanne Tumelty combined to release Murphy to get her fourth with a clinical near post finish. It was left to the industrious Lauren McGrath to round off the scoring with a well-timed run and finish to reward the efforts of Kelly Nolan, Tasha Sheehan, Marie Hynes and Essmay Murphy while Nicole Hanley, Noleen Maher and Laura Kearney did well for Vale.

Baltinglass Town B v Nurney Villa
Div Two 05/01 14:00
Baltinglass Town B 1 - 1 Nurney Villa

Baltinglass Town 1

Nurney Villa 1

A draw was a fair result to a hard-fought tie.

Strong start by both teams with end to end action in the first ten minutes ended in Declan Faulkner netting from a fine move from Mark Murphy and Mick Dowling. Both teams started to settle with Baltinglass on top for most of the first half coming close on a number of occasions. Nurney capitalised on a defensive slip up from Baltinglass to draw level just before halftime through an own goal.

Neither side could conjure up a winner in the second half. It continued much the same as the first with both teams coming close but failing to convert. A real battle ensued on the pitch with no quarter given by either side. Nurney put on all the late pressure but Baltinglass defence held firm to end the game level.

Best for Baltinglass were Mark Murphy, Fergal Donegan, John Martin and Tom Redmond. Best for Nurney were Philip Murphy, Val Fleming and Michael Murphy.

Killeshin FC B v Vale Wanderers B
Div Two 05/01 14:00
Killeshin FC B 0 - 3 Vale Wanderers B

Killeshin FC 0

Vale Wanderers 3

Vale started the game very well, producing their best soccer of the season so far and they were rewarded 15 minutes in when Dylan Waters crossed for Conor Byrne. Byrne controlled and fired a shot off that Ceilum Darcy helped into the net with an outstretched leg. Killeshin did respond well, Shane Coakley and Przemyslaw Smolarek going close but Vale were good value for their one nil half time lead.

Killeshin upped things in the second half and Vale had to defend well for the opening 15-20 minutes of the second half as James Brennan, Smolarek and Kaelum Hand all going close. After withstanding all Killeshin had, Vale regained control. Just after the hour mark, Ceilum Darcy was fouled on the edge of the box and Waters stepped up to fire an unstoppable free into the bottom corner. Vale brought on fresh legs and continuously tried to kill Killeshin off on the counter and with only minutes left they finally got a third. Subs Eric Nolan and Tadgh O Connor combined to release full back Darren O'Keeffe who cut in and got a fine shot off only for the keeper to produce a great save. However, he could only parry his save into the path of O’Connor who dispatched of perfectly from about 12 yards out.

Best for Vale were Pat Meaney, Jordan Doyle and Ceilum Darcy. Best for Killeshin were Kaelum Hand, Adam Brennan, Ricardo Tavolieri and Aaron Dempsey

Burrin Celtic v Round Tower Rovers
Div Two 05/01 11:00
Burrin Celtic 3 - 1 Round Tower Rovers

Burrin Celtic 3

Round Tower Rovers 1

The first half was evenly matched with both sides having chances.

Burrin went one up with 25 minutes gone through a long effort from Jonathan Lalor that put off the keeper and defence for the away side. A few minutes later, Michael O’Leary had a great chance outside the box and spotted the keeper off his line by trying a long range shot over the keeper’s head but just going over the bar. Round Tower Rovers then started to trouble the home side and their goal came from some good play with Craig Doyle making two great saves but the third shot was the one that counted. Rovers equalised just before half time when Alex Renehan pounced on a ball in the box and riffled it into the bottom corner.

The second half was very even until 75 minutes when Burrin got their lead from an O’Leary cross which John Kinsella got on the end of it and slid in to make it 2-1. Burrin applied the pressure and got the third with a well taken goal from Liam McGuill. A hard-fought game that Burrin just edged.

Slaney Rovers B v St Patricks Boys B
Div Two 05/01 14:00
Slaney Rovers B 0 - 3 St Patricks Boys B

Slaney Rovers 0

St. Patrick’s Boys 3

Pat’s kept themselves top of the table with a comfortable win over a struggling Slaney side.

Pat’s took the lead after 25 minutes when John O’Neill pounced on to a scrappy ball in the box and found the back of the net with a great strike to the roof of the net. Shortly after, a fantastic corner by Dinny Farrell was met by the head of Thomas Sheehan which gave the Slaney ‘keeper no chance. Slaney’s best effort fell to Brian Smith who latched onto a pass from Adam Byrne only to be denied by the visiting ‘keeper. Ethan Smith forced another save, Padraig Bolger’s long-range effort smashed off the crossbar and Jake Elliot with only the keeper to beat, blazed over the bar. The home side battled back in the second half, creating opportunities to get back into the game. However, Pat’s cleared their lines with 20 minutes to go and Leven Da Silva’s through ball left John O’Neill through on goal to tap in his second of the day and wrap up all three points for Pat’s despite the best efforts of Andrew Sibbald, Colin Byrne and Padraig Bolger.

Best for Pat’s were David Brennan, Jamie Malone and Thomas Sheehan.
